The Science Behind Veba

Did you know, there’s not one, not two, but three ways that breast milk and formula spoil?! Time, Temp, and Contamination. That’s a lot to keep track of! Luckily, Veba does it all for you!

The science behind Veba is supported by a team of pediatric experts.

Time

Veba has a handy dandy built-in timer that starts once a bottle is prepared. We’ve set the timer based on the CDC and WHO’s recommended guidelines for milk expiration, but you can always personalize the guidelines just how you like them within the app.

Temperature

Veba also has a nifty thermo-detector that tracks the ambient temperature around the bottle and updates the expiration accordingly. That means it knows to extend the time to expiration when the bottle is placed in the fridge. It can also detect when temperatures are high and can impact the milk's nutritional value. If the heat’s through the roof, you’ll get a ping to toss the milk out.

Contamination

Once the baby feeds on the bottle, it’s ripe for contamination — within the next two hours that is! So, Veba has a pretty cool little sensor that detects when the bottle is tilted for an extended time so it knows that the baby is sipping. The app then updates the expiration on the leftover milk. Just to be extra helpful, Veba reminds you to record the ounces so you can keep track of your little one’s intake too!
